In moments Like These…
My heart hurts today upon learning that an incredible man I knew (though not well) and admired greatly has passed away. He was truly inspiring, had great faith, and more than that, a lot of love and patience.
In my first year after graduation whilst volunteering to co-run a poetry event (in order to gain some much-needed experience), I was lucky and blessed to work alongside him briefly.
He took the time to talk with me at length about my plans and goals and to encourage me to go even further than I thought I should and could. More than anything, seeing the way he lived his life and the conversations we had about the big life-questions left a huge mark on my own life.
There’s only so much anyone on the outside looking in can say, but I would like to pay tribute –in my small way and in honour of a great man –with these words from John Donne:
Death, be not proud
One short sleep, friend. Rest in power.
